a week for people to come and view the collections and temporary

We have an increasing number of visitors to the Gallery, particularly coach parties, plus our artworks and collections are generating both national and international requests to be loaned out. It's well worth coming to see what's on display and have a bite to eat in the beautiful tea room."

LOCAL RESIDENT HOLDS FREE CYCLE EVENT ALONGSIDE RON HILL 10K
Local Resident, David Boyle, a qualified British Cycle Leader, will be holding a bike ride alongside the Ron Hill 10k on Sunday 6th March. The bike ride will perfectly compliment the run taking in many of Accrington and Baxenden's wonderful sights. The cycle begins at 2pm, after the Ron Hill race finishes, if you wish to attend, please be there 15-20 early as the bike ride will begin promptly. The total distance of the ride will be 7.7 miles and will take in historical aspects of Accrington and Baxenden. David Boyle says "this ride is for everybody, whether you're a seasoned rider, a novice, or just fancy taking the family out for a nice afternoon ride." David is hoping this will become a yearly event to coincide with the Ron Hill and promote fitness within our town. The event is free but refreshments will cost money and shall support St. James Church, Accrington and The Haworth Art Gallery, Baxenden. The event will start at St. James Church in Accrington Town Centre where the Cubs will be giving out refreshments alongside the Vicar, Ian Enticott. David is fully insured by SkyRide to lead the tour and says "it'll be great fun for everybody involved, hopefully the weather will be on our side!"

CHARITY NIGHT TO BE HELD AT BASH CON
A charity night in aid of Accrington Victoria Hospital Dialysis Unit will take place on the 19th September starting from 8:30pm. This event is being run by Michael Fox, whose father, Gordon, kindly donated a kidney to his niece, Paula Fox after being found to be the only suitable donor without months on the Donor Waiting List. Michael said "The event is being run for my father who donated a kidney a few months ago and had to use the dialysis unit quite a lot. It's a much needed facility within our community and the staff there are great so its fantastic to be raising money for this cause. I couldn't have planned this event without help, and would like to thank everybody who has been able to make this event happen." The charity night will also have live music from The Soundcasters, with guest appearances from The Sparkle Sisters. The night will be informal and everybody is welcome! Many local businesses have kindly donated prizes for raffle, and if there are any businesses who wish to contribute then please get in contact with Michael on 07583374610.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II IS LONGEST SERVING MONARCH
The
Mayor will join Councillors and local schoolchildren at Haworth Art
Gallery on 17th September, to mark the Queen becoming the country’s
longest serving monarch on 9th September.
Plans to mark this landmark day, when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will become the longest reigning monarch in British history, include making a toast to the Queen and a tree planting ceremony in her honour at Haworth Art Gallery.
Local people will also have the chance to pay personal tributes, by signing one of the commemorative books at either the Haworth Art Gallery, or the Town Hall which will then be sent to the Queen at Christmas. The books will be available to sign after 17th September.
Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson, said; “Hyndburn has a long and proud association with the Queen and her visit to Accrington in 2012 is still fresh in our minds, a truly wonderful day and a momentous occasion in Hyndburn’s rich history. Reaching this milestone is a remarkable achievement and we’re keen to pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen, for her loyal and dignified service over all these years. Don’t miss your chance to pay your personal tribute by signing one of the commemorative books at Haworth Art Gallery or the Town Hall, which will be there until just before Christmas, when we’ll send them to the Queen.”
